Why does my house shake when a train go by?

my house is at least 2000 foot away,,,,,,past a four lane highway

From Long Island, what is the best...

Answers:    It's shock side from the train as it passes over the frail tracks. The tracks are not perfectly flat, and nearby are gaps between the ends of the rail. When the train cars roll over these imperfections, the impact is transmitted into the ground. Same as when your sports car rolls down the highway. If your car weighted 200,000 pounds, the impact of it as it passed over potholes and other imperfection in the road would be transmitted into the ground as powerfully, and send shockwaves through the ground so others could discern it many foot away. As far as you being competent to feel these shock breakers 2,000 feet away, it have to do with the density and composition of the ground and things close to water, denounce lines, other buildings, mountains, and hills between you and the train. Some kind of terrain transmit these shock waves more readily than others, while some kind of terrain absorb and diminish these shockwaves, which is also why some inhabitants feel earthquake hundreds of miles away from the epicenter, while other people closer don't have a feeling them at all.

What alternative use can you suggest for...

because the top soil your house is on does
