Automatic shifting vs tiptronic?

Some cars have an automatic nouns which goes from 1,2,3,D. If you shift it manually is it alike as shifting tiptronic in other cars. Is it like peas in a pod concept? I know tiptronic doesnt have a 123D on an automatic panel...

Answers:    It is matching concept. They are both traditional automatic transmissions which allow a certain amount of manual control. The most significant differences between the two would be:

-'Tiptronic'-type transmissions are more foolproof. The 'up one gear/down one gear' selector functions similar to a sequential manual, resembling that on a motorcycle. This helps prevent incorrect gear selection compared to traditional automatic. This is especially true of automatics next to straight-line shift gates, where on earth one could easily miss shifting from 2 or 3 to 'D' and accidentally move about into neutral, or worse, Reverse or Park while the saloon is in motion.

-Tiptronic trannys usually are setup to provide more positive shifts, next to higher stripe pressures to facilitate quicker gear changes.

But as far as they path in which they operate, they are both classified as traditional automatic transmissions, beside only minor differences contained by the gear selection mechanism. They are not the same as manual with automated clutches.
