Car key contained by foot, but ignition lock and the steering controls moves!?

My girlfriend's 1998 Chevrolet Malibu has been acting up just this minute, and this one takes the cake. Sunday morning, we took her car to church, and it worked fine: get in, drove around, got out, repeat. Later that morning, however, I got into her car and tried to start it, just to find the key wouldn't turn past the 'lock' position. (Okay, conceivably a hair, but no more.) The brake pedal has also stiffened up from my stepping on it to see if it would backing any (and obviously, it didn't). The transmission is within park, and the steering wheel can be turned freely (albiet with some extra force since no engine = no power steering).

I've arranged for a tow truck tomorrow morning and a salesperson appointment shortly after, but does anyone have any ideas as to what could be the bag? I think the transmission have been fooled and isn't in park, but I don't know how I would own keys in my foot. Might help to know that I am a MN student, so the recent sharp cold might be a huge culprit to my problem...

What is the Massachusetts procedure for getting...

Does anyone else surface sorry for today's...

The exact same point happened to me when I had my 1999 Bonneville SI. The fragment didn't cost much & my neighbor said he could have fixed it, but I'd already called the tow truck, via AAA. It didn't cost too much money to enjoy it fixed. I can't remember what the problem was but it happened to my first Bonneville as in good health. It doesn't seem that it had anything to do beside the transmission. It was something connected to the power steering.

Would you sink to this smooth?

Answers:    This type of ignition has have lots of problems. The main one is DO NOT USE GRAPHITE> This will gum up the sidebar and then the ignition does exactly what you describe.

At this point its best to pinch the ignition cylinder out, clean or replace and for a ProLocksmith tocome to you and do this is about 195 total.
