Have you ever have the possible misfortune of have a Rolls-Royce vehicle ?

Hi folks,

Some years back I mistakingly had a Silver Shadow Mk 2
Painted gold ingots with a black rag roof.

OK, they look the bit, but are totally impractical.

The item had a 7litre engine, but as it weigh nearly 3 tons, it refused to accelerate at a fully clad pace.
It also disliked corners, so just sort of wallow around.
I was forever wondering where the subsequent petrol station was.
Also it took up two parking spaces, and was contained by constant danger of having a coin or run through scratched down the side.

The value of it was similar to a unknown Vauxhall Corsa.

Any similar episodes with Rollers ?

Back in the 70`s I have a Corniche convertible.
It`s handling and fuel consumption were as you described but the performance be excellent for a heavy car.
The repair costs be horrendous.
I remember coming back from Manchester Airport and the water pump collapsed and the enthusiast blades went through the radiator matrix. It nearly bankrupt me at the time. Buying an antiquated one now is a risky business, you can spend a grand per corner simply getting the brakes sorted.
You felt great though driving it.
I prefer my Bentley Mk 6 but that is going soon alas.
No, I've never be so unfortunate that I lived to regret buying a Rolls, only to find that it's not a practical saloon.

For practicality, ride a bicycle.
Your point is.?
Did you not realise before you bought it that it was bigger, thirstier, more cumbersome and slower than a Golf GTi?
What the hell did you expect?
A RR Shadow is a pretty shrewd buy now, so long as you've got somewhere to keep it and a each day driver. Since most of them have been destroyed bt the honeymoon car boys, good ones are becoming harder to find, and prices are on the up.
The reality that you can indeed still buy one for the price of a new Corsa (just!) shows how much quality engineering you can grasp for your money. Ask yourself this...Which will be worth more in 2018, a 10 year old Corsa or a 40 year ancient Shad?

No but I can imagine. I cannot afford RR. But personally I construe they are ugly and inefficient automobiles. But on the other hand they seem to have a very strong body making it safer should it win into a collision. Also the newer model looks very luxurious.
