I have a 2001 VW GTI. I am hearing a boom from the tires like they are big meaty ones as I get bygone 40 mph. I did have one bad tire and purchased a latest one. Thought this would take care of it. Now I hold 4 good tires, almost all modern. Wondered if anyone might know what this is.
check periphery wear on tires for chopped or cut on edges. if no tire wear, you may have a dry or bad carriage.
good luck
Answers: IF you have all-season tires they are much more likely to take home a sort of "rumbling" noise as you exceed speeds of 40mph on highways and other sorts of dry pavement.
