Answers:    Your outside door lock cylinder is directly connected to your door lock by a metal rod. Normally you would need a knob that would fit into the cylinder and activate the tumblers so that cylindrical portion of the cylinder would consequently be allowed to turn and in doing so move the rod which consequently would unlock the door lock and then allow the rod from the door toy with to become an active participant within this whole procedure. Now think about someone taking a screwdriver and jamming it into the lock cylinder and forcing it to turn and/or popping the cylinder out and manually moving the rod to unlock the actual lock. This lock that I am speaking is bolted to the inside of the door usually by 3 or 4 bolts.
