Vehicle emergency response lights?

i am a volunteer firefighter in north alabama. i be just wondering if anyone could distribute me a link to the regulations of putting emergency responce lights on a personal vehicle. everyone that i ask give me a different answer. i know that normally not a soul can get blue or red lights on a vehicle, only amber or white, but are emergency workers allowed to draw from red lights? is there a sure way that you must put pen to paper your car to identify it as an emergency response vehicle?
ive tried doing some research, but i cant come up beside very much. can anyone describe me "official" regulations or preferably give me a relation with adjectives the guidelines?
thanks

Massachusetts learner Permit?

Answers:    Your fire chief or police chief should be capable of answer this question. Make sure you do follow the ruling, impersonating an officer is a serious offense. In my state you are single allowed blue lights, with NO siren (you can hold an air horn) and you must enjoy a permit for the table lamp.

What is the SAFEST vehicle?

Your fire chief should be able to share you & point to to several resources. If not then you may want to try asking other districts. Or if that peters out too, you can stir talk one-sidedly to the paid fire chief of your city. Red is the big no-no of colors. But if your a volunteer firefighter afterwards yes it's ok but DO ask 1st though.
Hope that helps
