It has to be a substance that will grip middle-of-the-road road surfaces, but there is no rule that say they have to be any natural or synthetic rubber.

Answers:    Rubber is cheap to manufacture and requires replacement every 5-7 years due to dry rot that occur in tires. I'm sure a severely expensive synthetic material could probably replace it but that would be unpromising for business.

Scientists did make a bedside light bulb that lasts over 100 years nonetheless we see ones with 2000 hours of vivacity span on the shelves with compact flourescent bulbs coming into the common just lately.
