As for "why won't they introduction these lovely and efficient small cars to the U.S.?" Well, it's because most Americans are accustomed to low fuel prices and haven't be forced to economize nearly as much as they have contained by Europe. We are way astern the fuel economy curve, but that's soon going to revise I think. You will get going to see more small cars, and more diesels here in the states over the subsequent 5-10 years.
Safety regulations have also have a lot to do beside making it difficult to sell lightweight cars here. As computer-aided designs carry better that will change too. Unfortunately, you still own the nasty law of physics to deal beside and as long as the OTHER vehicle that hits you is a 6000 lb SUV, then profusely people won't be prepared to drive something they don't have to climb up to bring back into. I for one will start driving one soon, and I hope more will follow suit. Give it time..........
