A friend of mine just got a quote for insurance of around 2400 per year. She have no driving record, drives a older motor, is female, and past 35 years of age.
Granted she lives contained by NJ. This cant be right.
We can only come up with 2 possible reason. First, she's only had a US liscence for a year a presently. Second, her husband has a suspended Liscence.
Is this normal?
nought is normal with insurance. I know that NJ is one of the most expensive places to hold auto insurance. That is one reason. I know that they go by the amount of time you have a liscence and age. I would keep shopping around. My insurance for 2 cars, both my wife and I are over 35, no ticktets is about $500.00 a year, and we own alot more than the states mimminm. (We live in Utah) Just keep shopping around.
Good Luck
N.J. have a high crime rate anyway so that will jump it up, she is a relatively current driver, that would make it jump, the husband entity MAY raise it too. I would look at more ins companies and compare prices. My dad and I are on the same policy at ALSTATE, he have an 04, mine is an 06' Both 4 wheel drive Dodge 4 door cummins and we have $300,000 coverage instead of the $100,000. ours one and only run $3000 a year together
no, its not. i worked for an insurance company. try to receive a quote from another company. Her just having her license for a year doesn't make a difference or shouldnt. Her husband is not her so it doesnt matter if he dont own a license. Just try another company and dont let them screw you around.. goodluck
Yes, intensely normal. Less than 3 years verifiable driving record, husbands license status, and living surrounded by NJ are 3 strikes against her. She should be thankful she was competent to find a company to write insurance for her at all.
There are many companies that she would not even be eligible for insurance near due to her circumstances. Definitely continue shopping for your best quote, but don't expect great rates with her current situation.

Her husband having a suspended license should not play into it unless they were married and he be on her policy when he did whatever he did to get the suspended license, i.e. DUI, wreckless driving, something of that outlook. She needs to get some more quotes.

Answers: NJ used to be one of the HIGHEST rate States within the US, and only within the finishing 5 years or so has it lightened up. Folks used to move about over into PA and buy insurance JUST so it would be AFFORDABLE!!
Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, borders of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor vehicle report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see just about undisclosed accident involvement.
The best thing to do is ring up a LOCAL independent agent. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will know how to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.
In NJ, you also enjoy the NJAAA (New Jersey Auto Agents Alliance) which might be a source for insurance. Just look for their logo in your local phone book.
An independent insurance agent will normally enjoy a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked next to other local agents that can.
In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and kindness drivers with "less than perfect" driving documentation, and have companies that specialize in immature and/or newly licensed drivers.
Most of the replies on this site say "dance to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user near a script to work from and you won't be able to cooperate with the same being every time you have a problem!
Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!
