I know there are some agents that are on here so I thought I'd post my question and see if anyone have any suggestions for me. I am a married woman over twenty five, with an ill husband who no longer works. I enjoy two small kids and make a measly twelve thousand a year. My Auto insurance was almost 1200 annually which isn't to bad for my two cars ( a 97 plymouth breeze and 2001 kia sportage ) with full on the kia and liability on the plymouth. My insurance lapsed smaller amount than a month, I didn't purposley not pay it, I just plain and simpley didn't own the money, I don't have credit cards since my husband got sick and so it's clear check to pay check. I went to repay it about 12 days after they cancelled it and they raised my insurance to 2100 annually almost double! I started calling around and that's what everyone is wanting to charge me, nearby is no way I can afford it and that's with the lowest coverage. I have one ticket for speeding two years ago. Any suggestions?
your lapse contained by coverage added a surcharge for not having six months of continuous coverage. Your credit score and ticket will place you surrounded by the higher risk category. use the online tools for a progressive quote and see if the rate is less they commonly have the best rates for higher risk drivers.
Insurance companies are using your credit rack up to partially determine rates. Low scores translate into complex rates. They have concluded that someone with a low credit win will be more likely to file a claim for reimbursement.
Answers: Once insurance lapses, for whatever use, you start over as a new customer. I would assume your credit report is not the greatest at this point, which would be a factor.
Try an independent agent to see if they can do any better for you, but that may be what it is now since you agree to it lapse.
Sorry I don't have better news.
