Car insurance away at college?

A friend of mine who is away at school near me (200 miles from home) said he gets reduced insurance because he is away at university without a motor. However, he is always driving his girlfriends vehicle. He claims that its OK for him to do this.

This sounds a little fishy to me. He is getting the discount because his insurance company think he isn't driving, right? If he wrecks his girlfriends car is he covered? I am worried roughly being contained by the car near him. I don't want anything defaulted onto my insurance within the case of an twist of fate if its just him and I surrounded by the girlfriend's car.

Let me know what you guys regard as!

Insurance claim support?

Vehicles are insured, not those. His car is sitting here, so yes, it can have reduced coverage. As long as he's driving beside his girlfriend's permission, he is covered beneath her insurance. One has nought to do with the other.

He doesn't obtain reduced insurance because he isn't driving, he gets it because HIS coup¨¦ isn't being driven.

Can I procure auto insurance to cover...

It adjectives depends on the insurance companies and he and the girlfriend use. If you are just a passenger within his girlfriends car, here is no way any you can be held responsible for any imperfection.

There are policies that offer coverage to "guest drivers" of your saloon. So maybe the girlfriend have that type of coverage.

Or maybe the friend of yours is getting a lower rate on his insurance because he swtiched his coverage to her vehicle. That would explain a discount if her car is cheaper to insure than his own. Also his policy may volunteer coverage to other cars is he drives it.

There are many varibles and it adjectives depends on the type over coverage either one of them are using.

Question in the order of my driving...

Answers:    Technically as long as the girl friend has given him authorization to drive her car, he is covered lower than her policy. She will bear the problems of a motor accident if he get into one though. Meaning if he gets into an luck with her sports car, her insurance rates will go up. (Unless as you would expect her policy is specifically written to not allow her to loan her car out to another driver. Some policies are specifically written this process, but most are not)

If everything is done properly, she should place his name on her policy, but technically he is covered.

Is within anyway to take a vehicle...

he get a reduced rate becuase hes not driving his car. if he wrecks her saloon, HER insurance carrier have to deal near it. insurance follows the car, not the driver. i hope his girlfriend know this
