Car Insurance - Excess and Premiums after a bump?

I am asking this on behalf of someone else, not sure which ins company with but the scenario is- reversed out of a space and made a dent in this guys car- swap details and he have rung to say cost for repairs will be 500 quid. IT IS going through on insurance so we know its all legit and he cant mess us just about. The excess on the car ins policy is 500 and the claim is for about lb500. Will the insurance company only just bill me that? As they will be paying the full amount of the claim, will it affect the premiums alot? (20 yr old male, pass by less than a year!)

Driving Permit audition?

Your description is imprecise. Normally an excess on a motor policy is only for accidental/ malicious bring down to the driver's car or for fire/ theft wrong or windscreen - depending on cover. There is usually no excess under the liability section of the policy i.e. the subdivision your friend is claiming under - so they won't have to pay packet anything (The only exception of which I am aware is Easymoney - surprise, surprise - when last checked).

As for the extra costs - that depends on current no claims bonus entitlement and the simple premium. The worst case is if your friend currently has one years bonus. I'll quote underlying figures- you can multiply by the appropriate factor. These assume no risk/premium changes and no other accidents.
The option your friend have are: pay the claim themselves or tolerate the insurer do it for them

Year: Self: Insurer
2008: lb1000: lb500
2009: lb 700: lb400
2010: lb 600: lb350
2011: lb lb500: lb350
2012: lb 400: lb350
Total extra cost lb1250. If 1 year bonus is held the extra cost is lb1,000, if NIL Bonus lb750

The insurance rates are almost bound to walk up at renewal BUT it is possible that no excess fee is payable. Sometimes, the excess is only on the first do (the 20 year old). You need to check with the insurer.

Answers:    The usual practice is that the insurance company only pays the amount over and above the excess and the policy holder is vanished to make up the excess himself. Quite how they intend to handle this when the claim and the excess are apparently virtually like I don't know. I'd ring the company and ask them how they want to play it. It is likely that next year's premium is going to stir up, but again I'd check with them, sometimes they'll overlook the odd small bump but I wouldn't bet on it!

How have Amica be within the saloon...

Well yo ushould also be capable of claim repairs for your friend's car as part of the destruction as that is what the excess should cover, damage to yours and their cars. Yes they will charge you the lb500.

You can expect your premium to be around matching price as you paid when you first got insured, although possibly slightly higher

If like me you have a pass plus which lowered your first year insurance then expect to discharge a lot more this time round.
