ok so the dust bin truck drove into my car causing damagae to the backside quarter, bumper, and tailgate. I like my car and want the insuarnace empire to fix it but they say they wont because they will only wages for a repair upto 60% of the value of the car. the cost of the repair is something like lb500, and the value of my car one and the same. the insuarnace people wont fix it... they say they hav to write it sour because its not economical to repair. however.. can't i just wait for them to confer the book price of lb400-500 and use that to fix it myself after they have written it off?.. if i can it will be unfaultable again.. but how can i get the dlva to recognise this and not list it as a write stale anymore?? is this possible?
thanks for help given
I don't consider you can take the insurance money AND keep the coupé, as effectively once they pay out it will be their car to do next to as they please.
Have another crack at them. A good trick is to refuse their extend and wait for them to produce another one. Ring them everyday, at different times, ask to speak to the same individual and basically make their go an absolute misery until they make you the extend you want.
Its a good way to consent to off steam as well. However if you don't want it written past its sell-by date and the insurers won't budge then you will have to fork out for the cost of repairs yourself. Also suffer in mind the crash will go on the cars' transcript and devalue it in future.
Good luck doesn`t matter what you do.
If they class it as a write off they transport it to the scrappers, where you could buy it if you knew which one but once you fixed it you hold to have it specially tested before it can turn on the road again. The dvla have it down as a write rotten otherwise and the police are linked so you would get pulled.
It is not really worth it, much better to find the money and haggle a deal on another one in worthy nick to start off next to.
The process of getting it road legal is not too hard but it costs more than a typical mot and you never know what they may find that you thought was ok ,maybe ring a few fragment yards to find out the local one near you they are bound to know who does the test in the area.

Answers: It's pretty standard for a company to write sour a car that costs the same or more to fix it than it's worth.
In the US we call it being "totaled."
I'm not sure of British laws, but within the US you can still keep the car and use anything money they give you to fix it.
