If an automobile is owned and used by a company is it considered commercial?
If so does each driver of the vehicle have to be name as an insured or can anyone drive it?
TX
As for insurance, most companies any have policies in force that cover their cars while on their property, or cars are assigned to human resources and coverage is in force during business usage. It's doubtful that "just anyone" could drive a company vehicle, and be insured. Reading the policy is the switch here, not all policies are written the same.
yep and any member of staff can drive it which dosent mean family
or friends --employees
Answers: Depending on how the company is set up, MOST autos are commercial, however, it is NOT uncommon for owners of a company to have their "personal cars" on the company policy so they can write of the sports car and use it for tax purposes.
The commercial policy is not as broad (coverage wise) as a personal auto policy and unless properly endorsed, it probably won't transfer over to substitute vehicle.
Some commercial policies have limitations on drivers' ages so they want all drivers programmed on a policy as drivers - but - their name may not show up on the vehicle cab card.
There are times that a commercial policy may be written on a vehicle specifically NOT used in business due to the NATURE of the vehicle. Perhaps it might be a flatbed truck, or one of the newer "haul units" that you see pulling horse trailers or big "toy box" trailers (the ones that own living quarters in the front and a garage for cars, bikes, ATVs or anything in the back. The vehicle is too solid to put on a personal auto policy since the personal auto policy is normally limited to one ton vehicle or an approximate vehicle weight of 10,000 pounds.
Good luck and I hope this helps!
