DVLA correct of address, they own lost my licence what can i do?

I was told tht in lay down to change my address on my licence i had to complete the pay for of my paper licence and send it to the DVLA along beside my photo licence. I did this 5 weeks ago and contacted them today to find out what is taking so long. They told me that they have no record of unloading anything. The address change costs nothing but it in a minute appears i will have to pay for a different licence? Surely there must be something i can do about this. I never sent the licence record delivery as i was told that 1st class post would be fine. Does anyone enjoy any advice, has this happen to anyone else? Can they issue another licence without me having to pay cheque cos it sounds a little harsh. Fair plenty part of its my fault for not sending it by record delivery but surely there must be something i can do?

To be fair, it's hardly DVLA's responsibility that your letter didn't arrive, that's down to Royal Mail.

I'd have another (polite) turn at them, as it may have turned up since, but I don't expect them to give you a topical licence for free. To do that would effectively mean that the rest of us fee-payers have to subsidise you.

Did you save a photocopy of what you sent? I always do, especially with something as far-reaching as a licence . . .

Where would it be cheaper to grasp...

Answers:    I am sorry that you own been havig trouble. I work for DVLA and I answer these calls adjectives of the time. You need to fill contained by the FRONT of the counterpart licence and not the back for a start and DVLA have not 'lost' it. It s the royal communication. We can only account for an application of any description when it is recieved at DVLA. I know that this is not the information that you want but if DVLA pay for every licence that is lost by royal messages then can you imagine the increase contained by the price for a driving licence. At the end of the day DVLA is a business that 'makes' money for the administration and the cost would spiral out of control if we start to issue free licences if they draw from lost.
