Fire trucks for tailgate and parade?

In Texas, what drivers license do you need to operate a pumper fire truck. Also, if it is an older model (1970's or later) what insurance do you entail and is it expensive? Also, to allow people to ride on it, do you need some sort of special registration, this vehicle would with the sole purpose be used once every couple of weeks or so, and would only drive a limited distance (less than 2 miles). Thanks for your abet

If it's a big ole' truck, I would suggest you get a class B CDL. Any person riding within a vehicle must have a seat belt. If you pass 15 people on it at any time, you'll need a P (passenger)endorsement. There's no bearing of calculating insurance. You'll have to sit down w/ an agent & get a quote.

Answers:    Coming from a paramedic and Firefighter in ILlinois you need a CDL Class B for weightiness reasons. You also need airbrakes encouragement, and tanker. The truck is designed to hold water inside for firefighting, hence the tanker endorsement.

insurance you obligation to check with an insurance agent for.

Registration is needed for any heavy truck, and can be expensive depending on counterbalance class of truck.
