Hi, anyone know if there's a UK database to eanable me to find motor registraion details?

I was involved in a traffic stroke of luck yesterday that left about lb1000 worth of twist to my car- the driver who caused the accident also have damage to his car but the buggar drove past its sell-by date. I managed to get the vehicle make and model and also a 6 of the 7 digits on the plate. Gave this info to the policeman who was remarkably kind but said they cant do much, typical!! I'm hoping that the car that hit me and cause the accident is insured and of course would love to claim bad him- anyone know how I may be able to track him or the car down near the details I have, Thanks

What exactly is file a claim?

Hi, really sorry to hear your news this only just happened to me but fortunately i got his full reg. i be told that the police would be able to track his details but recently i also found out that if I have rung my insurance company which is wise call they enjoy their own solicitors that can also find out this information so maybe give your insurance company a ring up. Hope this is of some help i know how frustrating this is my guy also gave me a false designation and address.

On the Autotrader web site near is a section where you can check sports car details using the registration details. If you put in the number and experiment with the 7th digit it will eventually contest the number to a car. When you find a description which matches that vehicle which hit you you will have the whole number plate. After that I don't know as the coppers are the simply ones who can do the PNC check, maybe constant nagging will help

Car insurance?

Hi .A common occurance unfortunatley ...the police will not give you any details due to the background protection act.has happen to me.
I didnt get anywhere..there is no agency that holds this info that I know of..worthy luck!

Is a court appearance reqd for flop...

The police do enjoy the means to deal next to it - they have specialised software that can sort all the vehicle with the combination of letters and numbers you distribute.

Provided you have written them down in the correct establish - and can identify the make and colour - they can trace BUT it is little used and takes time - so call 'priorities' etc etc.

The only vehicle database is DVLA and you are unlikely to get facilitate from them.

If you have for example - 656 AAA the job is graceful - they only have to dance thru the letters of the alphabet to pinpoint the car. Like sage for the numbers.

Best thing to do is inform your insurers and let them do the work - they hold access to the database of vehicles on register. BUT - bear contained by mind one thing - has the driver registered the saloon.? That will be your downfall.

Alternatively - try the Autotrader website - there is a link on the not here side of page Buying A used car - use that and enter the possible combinations - it will give you the clear, model etc but no address.

Answers:    The DVLA website will only tender the make , colour, engine capacity, fuel used and if the road tariff is due, it does not give the owners name. Data Protection, the solitary peple with access to this are the police.
