How do i buy a motorcycle?

i know that initially this sounds like a ridiculously easy interview, but basically what im wondering is what steps i should take and within what order.
here's the deal:
im planning on finding a used bike from a private salesperson, and then driving to their house and paying cash for the entire price of the bike and after driving it home while a friend drives my car home.
i already have a motorcycle license [permit].
what im wondering is:
at what point do i grasp insurance?
am i supposed to get motorcycle insurance while im sitting there surrounded by their driveway purchasing it so that i can drive home legal?
what about the license plate?
is their license plate supposed to stay on the bike and become mine?
except, how am i supposed to drive it home without a license plate?
and at what point does it get registered next to the DMV?
also, what about the title?
do i have to be in motion to a bank with the merchant and get it notarized and signed over to me?

check my stats, i always select the best answer.
Thanks.

Answers:    I ring up the insurance company the minute I sign an agreement to buy the car or bike. They walk me through everything so smooth that the salesperson probably thinks I do this for a living.

I get contained by quirk, lately curious...
