a couple of hundred pounds less than the repair estimate.
Can I 1) Offer to pay the difference and win them to repair it? 2) Take their offer and take the motor to another repair garage?
If you've submitted a repair estimate for your insurance company's consideration, they'll either authorise the estimate or not.
If they've authorised the estimate, the only contribution you would bring in is the policy excess, payable to the garage upon completion of the repairs.
This sounds like the case here. (ie: Estimate be lb800 for repairs. Your policy excess (Accidental Damage) is lb200. Therefore, they settle with the repairing garage lb600 and you pay the lb200 excess to them once repairs are complete.)
Double-check near them and ask them to clarify the procedure.
i'd ask them going on for paying the difference. if they say no then you're going to own to accept the money and try to find somewhere cheaper
I would complain as no doubt you will have excess to settle as well
Trevor h is right. Check your insurance policy below "Excess" and I'm sure you'll find that you are liable to pay the first lb200 of any claim.
You can take your saloon to another repairer but the insurance company will want to see a written estimate from that place too.

Answers: The difference between the repair cost and their offer is the excess you agreed to pay when you took out the policy.

Double-check near them and ask them to clarify the procedure. why would you accept anything but the full repair cost..? Tell your insurance company you will not adopt anything less then the FULL amount.

You should still have small claims court type process. whip the check from the insurance company don't cash it and don't fix the car return with the other estimates together and take them and the checks to the court date. They will have to foot to fix your car because they gave you the check it proves they except liability for their client and bam you should grasp the difference.
