Received $270 parking ticket in NYC
My vehicle is registed within MA, and the registration has since be cancelled.
I do not plan on registering another vehicle for several years, and when I do so it is more than a 90% chance it will not be contained by NYS or NJ.
I've ignored parking tickets from other cities/towns contained by NY with no problem for several years, including re-registering my sports car in MA near no problem.
Ethics aside, what are the ramifications of not paying? Does NYC do anything different within regards to hunting down tickets that would clear it worth my while?
I'm already paying way too much rent contained by this damn city.
Answers: Eventually they may turn it in for collections, which could include a bench warrant for your arrest. In the even you are ever stopped, if they run your license and find the warrant it could head to a trip to the county jail and your vehicle being impounded. Notice i said *could* not would. On the other foot absolutely nought may happen. Since you specifically said "nouns aside..." I will put a period and enunciate no more.
They could eventually turn it over to a collection agency, which could take more steps like garnishing your wages. I don't know if NYC does this or not.
