Hello. I am planning to buy Suzuki GS600F aka Katana.
The thing is I am wondering is what is running cost.
I am sure I will be doing more than 15000 a year on it as right presently I do more than 5000 on scooter just within the city.
I live in Scotland.
Please state what is your bike and style of riding and mine is quick;)
Answers: Katana is a sport tourer so you can get logical tyre wear. I find front brakes wear a bit quick but thats due to my riding style. The fairings on nearer models protect engine better if (when) you fall down.
Pretty simple motor base on 1985 GSX-R750. Do oil and filter change at recommended mileage or sooner as its probably damper and colder in Scotland than South Wales ( I live contained by Florida now)
Use Shell Rotella synthetic 5W/40 ( its a diesel oil)
Works real capably and is much cheaper than motorcycle specific oil from bike shop. Dont use Halfords coup¨¦ oil, clutch slips. ( and use 10W/40 or thinner, your engine like it better and survives longer) Keep idle speed just about 1200rpm make sure cam cover is properly seated when refitting, front bolt is difficult to bring back to. Also need latest sealing washers on cam cover at respectively valve adjustment and spanking new seals on hold down bolts every other spigot adjust. (you'll probably only requirement once a year after 12,000miles) Get service manual, you can do everything pretty unproblematic ( if you have somewhere to work on it)

BTW, its not nifty compared to a GSX-R600, Kawasaki 636 or similar, they are at least 20mph faster. ( but 135 is rapid enough most of the time ;o)
The suzuki is a fine byke.It have a very virtuous gear box,and riding it fast will be a big buzz, but, incredibly few people can ride a byke to its full fitness.Your problem with speed is the resultant fines, your costs will be contained by having to use softer compound semi race tyres to use the bykes speed, and the extra wear on brake pads ,fork bushes, clutch, chains, sprockets and your OFFS.You will come stale it at sometime or another ,we all do when we are taking risks. My counsel is to go to knockhill and do the track days,it will initiate you how to handle it much faster than research by yourself, watch and swot up.A very devout fast rider never take silly risks.Good luck mate and stay on it .
