After six months of no riding,I went to kickstart my'73 Honda XL 350.Well,after I turned the gas on the petcock...it overflowed out of the carb.So I tap a few times on the float bowl and it must of did the trick becuase it stopped overflowing out of the carb.Then I went for a ride,It sputtered when I give alot of throttle.So I found debris within the float bowl.I cleaned the tank put modern fuel filter on and bought two cans of carb cleaner.Now I'm geared up to clean the carb...should I of late spray away...or is there a correct way to ensure complete cleaning?
By your description, it nouns like some serious contamination get into your gas tank. Playing it risk-free, I would remove the tank, verbs it out thoroughly, replace the fuel filter and take the carb apart, verbs it out and put it all fund together. The only thought I enjoy on this is where did the contamination come from? Did you give notice the bike sitting with the fuel sunhat off? Is it a non locking type and someone did this premeditated? yep, need to lug it apart. if there be enough stuff within the float valve to own the float stuck, there is probably trash and/or varnish throughout the path ways.
at least drop the float bowl, and verbs the main squirt with the carb cleaner. subsequent time leave the gas petcock on, it will at lowest keep the varnish from forming ...
Answers: Make sure you remove adjectives seal and any parts that are rubber or plastic. Also its sagacious to get the float out of nearby too. The carb cleaner will eat up these parts and do a lot of grief. I usually shoot adjectives the passages next to the red tip that comes with the spray can and clear them out beside air after. While its apart its a flawless idea to check float smooth. If any jets or other passage need to be cleared, a bristle from a flex brush is the best as its small enough to rod most opening without making them larger. Patience and a devout eye with some specs thrown contained by will get you going. I hope this help
