Hi,
I have the tomtom with adjectives of the maps for Europe, which i think is great and would love on my bike. I dont see why i should spend another lb300 on a tomtom rider when surely it would be relatively simple to hook up a usual car tomtom for a bike ? Has anyone tried doing this ? Surely it is a matter of somehow powering the section and then a waterproof bag + mount for the unit ? Any suggestions ?
most bike sat navs enjoy extra large buttons for use with gloves...
my friend fitted his by buying a motorcycle tom tom bracket/cradle for a sit nav of similar size.
what is wrong with a map??
I ride so not to have someone transmit me where I have to budge, "If you don't care where you are, your never lost"
The solitary way to power the unit is through the on-board freestyle. You will need to hook it up to a wall charger or a car charger or a computer every three hours or so. After you amount out ho to mount it on the bikes handlebars you can just cover it with clear plastic wrap close to Saran Wrap. Just be careful of condensation.
You can buy one of these mount on eBay

Answers: Think is if you did mount it, someone it would only label your bike more stealable.
Waterproofing it will be another issue as the bike one is designed for the prupose
supplying power to it isnt a problem as they run on a 12volt supply off the cigarette lighter...
Myself i would waist my time, if i was going on a long spree id take a map, a-z and some transcription that ive made for the journey.
Why pay lb300-400 for an electronic map??. If you want someone to guide you to your destination be a passenger or detain the bus/train!. Biking is suposed to be about being free of the unwanted items of the day the open road... clear director one with the biek etc.. how can you have that when your person told ' turn left. turn left... recalculating... verbs straight on... turn right...' seems like a dumb *** distraction to me..

Well I have a gps but it has a freestyle. What I do is very simple and safe. I hold a tank bag next to clear plastic on the front.
I put the magnetic tank rucksack on my gas tank and the gps inside the clear plastic. Not safe to look at it as you drive but at stop lights I can. Its also great at dark too.
