This is a question from my dad. He have a Harley and wants to dull the chrome on the grease tank, can he do this using some sort of chemical? Bear contained by mind it's only to dull it, not to remove it - he wishes to achieve a sort of frosted look. The look he's going for is glorious gloss on the body and the chrome dull, it looks phenominal so far! This would be the finishing touch, gratefulness all.
Answers: Maybe bitter like artists use to etch zinc plates(hydrochloric ?). That might be complicated to control and possibly cause rust.
Suggest that he bead blast it dull and perchance get a coat of matte clearcoat over it.
Try rubbing it next to steel wool, fine grit sand paper or weakly sand blast it. I would imagine acerbic or any type of chemical would make it rust.
