Not individual Not Harmful,,it'll keep your motor contained by better condition longer.
No Downside to using heavier than 10w-30,,,especially a motorcycle.

I own a Harley and it ran too hot also. I moved out the recommended weight matching but switched to a synthetic oil. It does run cooler and seem to actually run a touch smoother too. Might just be my imagination though. You might try using a synth. on your subsequent change and seeing how it works for you.
