Kawasaki ER5 500 and Yamaha TZR 250?

A dealer have shown me these two machines as a first bike and has priced the kawasaki for lb950 and the Yamaha for lb695.
I dont really want to compare the two, i of late want to know what people beside experience of either of these bikes believe of them.

Scooter licence?

TZR250. Mental, mental fun. Lots of repairs needed. Not a first bike though!

ER5 - about as much fun as the shipping forecast within comparison.

Look at it this way, contained by twenty years time you'll remember the TZR fondly. You probably won't even remember the ER5. But then again, you're much more promising to be alive in twenty years if you buy the ER5.

Can someone recommend a GOOD motorcycle mechanic?

the er5 is what most riding school use and its bullet proof and the price sounds about right . try an out-of-date 600 bandit as okay .

Answers:    My son had an ER5 from untried as his first "big bike", 100% reliable and easy to ride, he used it for work and it be ideal.
I maintain it for him and it was unproblematic to work on in gereral a fitting all round bike.
I borrowed it a couple of times and it be easy to ride, however if you are over 6 foot soaring make sure that you are comfortable on it as I found the riding position a short time cramped [however I am used to riding big bikes].
TZR great fun a little cramped again and not too comfortable on long trips.
It depends what you want to use the bike for, if you want to use it for commuting contained by all weather deffinately stir for the Kwack, if you want to get the addrenalin rushing obtain the TZR but be prepared to do a lot more maintainance on it.
