Engine was completely rebuild 300 miles ago. It now have a ticking noise that starts at around 3,500rpm and go up from there. I am thinking the shop screwed up, but they are not liable to honor their work since it has be over a year since the work was done, which make sense. It just sucks. I took the spigot cover off and checked the lash and tensioners. They are sound. My thought is wrist pin. Anyone have any other accepted wisdom for me to possibly check before tear too far into the engine?
Answers: i dont think fasten tensioner. usually that is lower rpm rotten idle where on earth chain slap or "chuckle" can be hear. i think you would hear wrist pin at low speeds too - not birth at 3500. if it goes from 3500 up i would look alertly at valve springs for unconvincing or broken spring which at 3500 won't close the valve anymore cause the valve float and later to "tick" down on the seat and/or the cam. also trademark sure all tap keeper locks are surrounded by place.
a rod bearing will knock underneath decelleration and then stir away under acceleration.
a fundamental bearing will be a dull knock irregular usually coming on during mild accelleration contained by midrange and not be heard at greater rpm.
