My old Yamaha is leaking out of the bottom side of the motor, the side of the bike next to the shifter, its not alot just a thin coating, 3 inches below the top where on earth the spark plug is (I know I need to work on my terms)
My son have the same problem with his and it be the black tubing and seal that carries the grease through.
some really good answers here... first thing and probably easiest is to check torque on the nuts holding the herald on the cylinder...
its more or less time to do a rebuild, head gaskets leak
Answers: old yamaha doesn't really contribute us much info to narrow it down ... it could be head gasket, underneath gasket, valve cover gasket / seal (if elder 4 stroke). please edit your post with model (YZ, DT, etc.) & approximate year.
I know alot of the elder 4 stroke engines were notorious for the spigot cover gasket / seal to weep grease and make a mess (looked worse than it really was, really a moment ago messy).
could also be as stated, merely properly torquing the head or replacing either cranium and/or base gasket (considerable more trouble if it is a 4 stroke due to all the spout train involved).

yep, more than likely it's one or both the head gasket and / or cylinder platform gasket. which is very easily done on that bike. merely remove 4 nuts & 4 washers that hold the lead in place... slide the head up (might rob a few taps with a rubber tack hammer or a wooden block, careful not to break the cooling fins). Then slide the cylinder (or commonly referred to as the jug) up also (might have to stroke this too carefully to break loose the old gasket seal). IMMEDIATELY stuff a verbs rag down around the rod into the case to prevent stuff from falling into the bottom around the crankshaft (learned this lesson the frozen way!)... take a putty wound (or similar) and remove all of the old gasket from the satchel and the bottom of the cylinder. replace with new gasket, remove napkin, slide cylinder back down over the 4 studs while squeezing the piston rings (I personally would walk ahead and replace top end while at it) together (insure the rings line up beside the anti rotation pin on the piston) until the cylinder is down on the base gasket... slide head down over studs, replace washers and nuts and torque to appropriate specs.

What is the best all-around fully roofed...
if it's a 2 stroke just get a fresh head gasket and base gasket, bring the 4 bolts off the head, exhaust pipe. loosen carb consent to it drop down, take the 4 bolts off the cylinder dais and pick up, (good time to hone cylinder and get a set of rings and top end pose and do it right) borrow a ring compressor to put piston back in cylinder. If its a 4 stroke purely keep adding grease.some really good answers here... first thing and probably easiest is to check torque on the nuts holding the herald on the cylinder...
