Not familiar near old sleds, I'm assuming it has carbs. Most feasible junk in the floats.
Answers: I gotta tell ya, guy that your problem is your ancient ignition coil. Cant read between the lines how these other folks missed this one, but you have the classic case of coil breakdown. I utter this because i am sure you have looked your carb over, its the number one culprit. swap out that coil.

I had experience on my wife's 1970 skiroule S300. I switch engine to Hirth 340 single. It spit gas/ air mixture out of carb, and bogs. I found the problem be spark plug gap. It was too close close to .010 gap. should be like .020 to .025 cleft.
Other is possible is condensor is old and worn out. It cause the timing jump. like oem is 15 degree. but it jump between zero to 40 degree. Replace the condensor.
Is that Tillioson or walbro carb?? Hope I can minister to you with this. and sometime sparkplug start fouled. Replace the spark plug.
Might need to reform to replace metered gaskets and diaphragms. it can crack and feed more gas. or diaphragms are stiff and cannot move much to feed engine.
Does your sled enjoy power valves?
If so, they might need to be cleaned (de-carbonized) contained by order to move freely.
Might need unusual cables that operate them.
I would check the carbs first.
Drain the float bowls into a clean cup, to see if any cast-offs comes out.
If there's dirt, rust, or water - drain the tank and install an in-line fuel filter.
Remove the carbs and thoroughly verbs them.
Change the spark plugs if they're dirty.
