Does anyone know where on earth i...

Answers:    It could be that it was, and get fixed.
What did the last owner hold to say nearly it?
You could always hold it checked, or if you are confident in your own ability, you could top up the reservior and check it yourself. A leak is a seepage, meaning stuff comes out. And brake fluid does not procure thinner with roast. If it changed like that, it couldn't be used for brakes.

Wouldn't a "fairing saver" be more credible...

if your brakes are leak there is other a visual bleed which is easy to see its not approaching brake components are hidden any place on any model vehicle, and if they are leaking its probably a enormously very slow escape and thats how they usualy leak... so you cant see brake fluid pouring out resembling a Tap but there is other enouf wetness that you are able to see and smell.
