What's wrong beside Vietnamese scooters?

As a long-time scooter afficianado (is that how you spell it?) who's finally got the money for a scoot, I'm lusting over pictures of brilliant shiny Vespas and Lambrettas they're selling online. HOWEVER, my local scooter shop warn me NEVER TO BUY FROM VIETNAM, where plentiful scoots seem to be sold. Are they trying to draw from me to buy a pricey scooter from their store, or is their something genuinely evil something like Vietnamese scooters?

The problem near buying off brand scooters is the drought of parts and service. You are spending say, smaller number than half the cost of a autograph brand and life is great....after something brakes in the drive train. No parts are available. Your scooter newly became worthless. No body wishes it and you can't fix it. Happens all the time beside off brand stuff especially the cheap China stuff normally available at the auto parts place or the roadside vendor. Save yourself grief and buy a KYMCO similar to I did. They are sold in Vietnam as are Vespas But beside worldwide parts and service. Buy local and the dealer have a reputation to protect. He or she also often have customer rides and clubs that are connected. Happy scooting!

The Vietnamese made cheap copies of Italian scooters. If you want a well made scooter don't buy Vietnamese. Or at lowest possible buy one that's been professionally restored.
If you want a scooter that will rust and topple apart and spend more time in the shop than doing a tour then that's the bearing to go.
I worked on an older one for a friend and it was actual rubbish. In the end he have to buy another one because it was so problematic and uneconomical to repair.

Answers:    Vietnameses don't sell knock-offs Vespa, which lot of citizens are confusing with restored scooters. Much of the Classics scooters surrounded by that country are real Italian manufactured. Also, some of these shops has a development of substituting parts that are not genuine Vespa or not suppose to be used. For instance;

Door knob rubber as a Kickstand foot rubber.
Or the famous one, gaskets made of sheet metal from beer can. And try to pass it as restored classic.
But, don't alway believe the rumors. There perchance a couple of reputable shops that are getting a bad rap from the evil others. For you, its going to be a headache to do the research.
If I be you, I would buy a classic, locally. Check around to see if there any scooter riders looking to mart their classic. Or check EBAY for US listing.
Its a angelic chance that your scooter shop isn't trying to flog you a high conclude model. Maybe.
And for a owning a old Classic. You will own deal beside the problems of a decades old vehicle.
