I am brand new to scooters and have never in reality ridden one, but for some reason I really, really want one. I want a vintage style scooter for city commuting, but with adequate engine to enjoy the ride. I've done a lot of research and reading and own settled on one of these two scoots. It seems that most people prefer the Buddy, mostly for it's speed and two year warranty. I agree. My problem is that the nearest shop that sell Buddies is over two hours away, and that there aren't many used ones on the bazaar. So my question is, do I buy a slower, used Vino 125 for a little below $2k with several Yamaha shops nearby, or do I buy a untried Buddy for almost $3k (after tax and dealer costs) and stretch my budget to it's hold back?

Having looked at the details youve provided, it seem that youre not too bothered travelling the extra distance for the Buddy, and paying an extra 1000$.
Youre thinking of spending some serious money, so like with anything, ask if you can question paper ride it. Do the close one first, then call up formerly you go to see the buddy.
Looks arent everything, your scooter needs to be comfortable too, and although a scooter is a scooter you may presume, they can be VERY different in shape, size and riding position.
So my advice is to step test them out...

The Buddy and the Vino are both great scooters and are a blast to ride. If I had both dealer close by I would get the Buddy. It does everything the Vino does, just rather better. Saving $1K and having local dealers is a big plus. Given that situation I would buy the Vino. If you are a devotee of the TV show American Chopper, they did a show on the Vino 125 and loved them.
Do you have a Kymco dealer close by you? They also make high trait scooters.
I would go with the buddy. Much better built, Better power ( the Vino is subcontracted to hundreds of Chinese shops. Simply look up Vino on eBay and look at all the clones ) Faster, the whole nine. I will articulate that I am 99% sure some of the parts are interchangeable with the Vespa LX series ( oil filter, wheels, etc. ) so if you have a vespa shop close at hand you they can always help.
Answers: I am not a 125cc scooter man myself but as a motorcyclist who has ridden motorcycles for 39 years now, I articulate go with the different one at a shop near you. Used bikes and scooters can be more problems and more expensive than a new one.
