Is it just me, or does anybody else have problems next to motorcycle dealers?
I am the guy that buys a new bike every year and every pusher i walk into they go outta their agency to be rude and insulting.
Why can't they be friendly?
My Kawasaki pusher is in a small town of <5,000 people. He not single caters to bike riders, but also farmers buying Mules, chainsaws and so on. NEVER has this guy been rude, he's other been helpful and he's be in the business for quite some time because of it. Incidently, I've never bought a bike from him, just parts for my old bikes. I've pulled into plenty of Harley shops on my Jap bike and I've never been treated rudely. All the those I've met have been more than friendly, so I don't consider your problem is a widespread one.
If you have problems next to salesmen being rude, talk to the principal or owner of the shop and tell them so. The last article they want is a salesman running off potential customers. As far as lots of lookers and few buyers in the dealership, that's business plain and simple. That includes bikes, cars, electronics, tools, nearly every business. If they hold a problem with that, then perchance they better go to selling ice cream on a street corner.
If the official or owner is rude, don't be a big wussy and whine about it to everyone else, tell them point blank how you get the impression. Not HOW you were treated, but how you FEEL you were treated. You may be more sensitive than most family and are easily offended by something that wouldn't bother the average character. If that's the case, I'm sure that person will apoligize to you. Calmly let somebody know them "I feel as though I'm being treated rudely. As an example,.. In adding together, I buy a new bike every year and if you guys are unable to treat me courteously, I'll stir somewhere else and give them my money." As long as you don't get brutal, the worst they can do is tell you get past its sell-by date their property. In any case, you have zilch to lose and they have everything to lose (a customer).
On the flip side, you say every contractor you go to are rude. Maybe you need to step fund and look at the bigger picture. First of all, are you near some substantial metropolitin area on the east coast? I've been nearby and there are some real jerk everywhere and not just in bike shops. If so, those guys don't hand over a rip. They have enough associates walk into their door every day that if you don't buy, so what, there'll be someone else who will. Spend a few bucks on gas and find a trader in a more rural setting. That'll be somewhat harder to do with Harley because I presume they usually have minimum population requirements for where they locate franchises. But any method, get away from the big cities.
The other thing you might do is look at yourself. Again, you voice every dealer is rude. Well, people usually respond surrounded by kind to the way they're treated. Since you buy a latest bike every year, do you swagger in expecting the red carpet to roll out for you? Since you spend $20k at a pop, do you expect the salesman to stride away from the kid looking at the used $4k 883 and wait on you instead?
If you're in the Midwest or western states (excluding the west coast), you're within luck because it's a known fact that us folks surrounded by the middle are much more courteous than the people on either coast.
Are you rude and condescending? You may not construe so, but if you recently moved from the east coast or southern California, chances are ancestors in a central Missouri dealership are going to see you as rude and condescending. Whether you want to concede it or not, that's a fact.
So, it probably comes down to either you move about where you will be treated respectfully or you start using a few manners.
I found the same item to be true. I use to ride Jap bikes. The dealers were unpardonable when it came to customer satisfaction. It didn't come across to matter if it was Kawasaki, Suzuki or any other brand. They be mostly staffed with young kids that could caution less about human being helpful or for that matter even acknowledge you were even in their dealership. I presently ride Harleys. The Harley dealerships have the most friendly and helpful ethnic group. I have stopped at numerous dealerships around the country and everyone of them has made you consistency right at home when you walk in. I'd suggest you try your local Harley provider and see if you don't agree.

Bring someone else with you to a dealership and let them ask the question and see if they get the same treatment.

It is an industry that needs to verbs up their act for sure. As gas prices rise motorcycle sales are on the rise A LOT! So you will start to see the customer service nouns improve as they start to deal next to regular hard working joe's like you and I that want to salvage on gas.
Funny story I'll share with you. I took my bike to a shop and the guy was so rude I asked to speak to the governor (keep in mind I am a very polite being and haven't asked to speak to a mananger in years) and when I asked him that he said "He was the superintendent!" lol
I told him to his face that I was surprised that the customer service beside a motorcycle dealership was worse than the worst used car lot I've be too.
I then told him that I was for sure going to buy a bike some daytime but not from them.
And true to my word 2 days ago I bought a Kawasaki zx-10 and did NOT get it from them.
I have all the same to find a place that are at least somewhat polite.
If I was the regulator owner of those places I would lay the law down and tell them its a line run operation with ethics and morals.
I enlighten ya, some of those guys better be careful because they are so rude, one of these days their going to lock in someone on a bad day and their going to closing up getting a mouth full of teeth, crumbled...from a disgruntled customer that is mad as hell and is not going to run it anymore.

Answers: They deal with profoundly of 'non-customers.' People just there to look, drool, ask question, sit on bikes, etc..
One person out of 100 probably actually buys something, so the salespeople go and get kind of jaded.
If the dealer KNOWS how normally you buy a bike , and they are still rude, then you have become too intelligent and they don't want your business anymore. This have happened to me at my local Harley Dealer. I know more about the bikes than the general public working there, from what bikes are produced, what options are available, parts available, and even adjectives problems with certain bikes. I do my homework online, read catalogues and brochures, and yak to other bike owners.
The last thing a motorcycle salesperson needs is an educated buyer. I am convinced that they thrive on smaller number intelligent folks with disposable incomes. That way, it's much easier for them to rob the money and run, rather than stand behind the product, and lift accountability for what they sell and the B.S. they tell you.
