I'am looking to buy a yamaha blaster it does turn on and drive but it only shifts up so the only method to shift down is turn it off i want to buy this atv but can anyone tell me some different problems that here could be like from best case scenario to worst suitcase scenario so tell me if it is a good buy for 900$ he say that it is just a simple fix of the shifting forks but please tell me if in that could be any worse problems or any not so worse problems thanks

Answers: For an experienced mechanic your friend is correct, it is a simple fix to remove the engine and split the cases and check the tolerances on the gears, both shafts and the forks. However since it shifts up I would say that it is approaching the Banshee and it is the shift star is screwed up in some fashion. Remove the right side cover which is the clutch cover. (drain the oil) Now you will call for to remove the clutch pressure plate, clutch plates and fiber plates, the clutch hub and the clutch basket. After you have removed that you will see where on earth the shift shaft goes though the cases and over to the left side. On the finale of that shaft there is a claw that should have 2 springs that work the shift star. If the shift star is loose or the claw is worn and/or dog-eared that is your problem. If it all looks and seem to work well then in attendance is some internal transmission damage and although it is undemanding in my eyes, it is not a novice project and if you purloin it to a dealer or a shop expect to pay for 2.5 hours break down, 1 hour to diagnose and another 3 hours to reassemble and test ride. Don't forget about parts. If I be you and I was looking to spend $900 on a Blaster I know I could find one in nice shape that runs and rides resourcefully for $900. I would say save your money and maintain looking and don't be impulsive or impatient.
