I have a Virago XV535 which runs realy badly surrounded by the wet and /or cold. Checking variuos virago web sites it seem that I may have problems with the carbureter heaters, but I can't find any info contained by the haynes manual nor is there any info on the network sites that mension the heaters.
Does any one out there know of these heaters and if so can you let me enjoy some info, such as whether they are replaceable and the element resistance .
Thanks.
Lez
I don't know how to test them, or if they're replaceable (they are removable).
Try removing them, plug them in and turn on the push button.
Feel if they get warm.
I've never have a problem with them, nor do I even think they are critical.
Think they were call carb de-icing kits if its just the slang youve got wrong.Had probs with mine simply firing on 1 pot, turns out wen i had it serviced theyd forgotten the air filter and sea woz getting in the carb.
Answers: Lez, in our climate contained by the UK we don't really need Carb heaters. A more common problem could be wet on your coils low tension and high rigidity leads.
Follow the spark plug leads put money on to the coils to find them. The Low tension leads are the scrawny wires going to the coil, the terminals can let surrounded by water and stop the coil from working or cause poor running.
Just verbs off the wires gently and spray beside electrical contact cleaner. While you are there, pull rotten the spark plug leads and spray down those as well.
A defective carb heating system will not cause poor running in a bike resembling the virago as the carbs benefit from sitting in the "V" and get fry from both sides via the engine.
As the engine is air cooled it warms up quicker than a marine cooled.
Look at the coils first, a spray of WD-40 over the engine and ignition wires won't hurt either.

You can see a wire plugged into the heaters on respectively carb.I don't know how to test them, or if they're replaceable (they are removable).
