Ive rode a ttr 125 for 3 years. I fried the rings and blew the piston twice from riding it to hard and this time instead of boring it out im just going to seize a bigger bike. My dad thinks I should get a YZ125 2 stroke but I'd a bit have the 250 four stroke. Which do you think would be better? oh im 16 btw
I personally went from a 125 2 stroke to a 250 4 stroke and it's much better within my opinion,especially if you do any trail riding,had the bike over 3 years and the with the sole purpose maintenance needed was grease changing and adjustment of lifters.In the long run i think it does cost smaller quantity with the same amount of fun!
Answers: Get the 4 stroke. You can still ride the crap out of it and you will decline in love with the low conclude power.

In CA a 2 stroke can only be ridden on certain public (BLM) lands during specific times of the year - typically Oct - April or May.
A 4 stroke can be ridden year round - both obligation a spark arrestor however, and the YZ125 doesn't come stock with one, so you'll have to buy one to ride it outside of a closed see course. The fine is steep.
The choice also depends on how strong you are. The YZ250F weighs more than the 125.
My 13 yr old daughter is currently on a YZ125 and she sure can ride it. She'd be on the 250 very soon if she could handle the additional cargo.
Maintenance is a bit cheaper with the 2 stroke, but you do have to pre-mix your fuel. So here are always trade-offs.
