I recently purchased a 97 BMW and haven't however bought snow tires. I'm at work now and a pretty fully clad winter storm is supposed to be hitting in the subsequent few hours. My commute also involves driving over a large bridge. I'm thinking im only about screwed. Has anyone driven surrounded by similar conditions without winterizing a rear-wheel drive vehicle??
When I was younger I couldn't afford snow tires on my cougar. Driving on the highway wasn't too fruitless. My problem was parking spaces or areas beside large hill to drive over.
Youcan drive without risk in any conditions as long as you properly alter to them. And yes, I have driven within a bad freezing rainfall storm in Michigan surrounded by a Cadillac CTS with no winter tires--all go just fine as I said above.
Take it straightforward, literally.
Safe drive!
Answers: If your car still have the original equipment size wheel and tires, it is quite probable that it already have all-weather tires that are rated for mud & snow mounted on it. If the tires hold adequate tread depth gone on them, they should be good ample for a gentle drive home surrounded by winter driving conditions.
Just remember that NO tire is going to give you dry-pavement handling capability while you are driving on snow or ice. Slow down and regard about what you're doing while driving on potentially slippery surfaces.
