How would you resolve the problem of risky truck drivers? What do you judge of my solution?

I have driven truck for 37 years and quite frankly, truck drivers upset the crap out of me.

They do not slow down and they tailgate people and endanger everyone's lives with their aggressive driving.

I propose the following:

All trucking companies should be required to hold monitoring devices installed on their trucks to record the distance between the truck and vehicles surrounded by front.

The Federal Department of Transportation would audit these records and fine the companies whose trucks violate SAFE DRIVING PRACTICES $100,000.00 per incident.

Hit the company in the pocketbook and after you will see safer drivers on the road. When they have a vested financial interest within safe driving, they will act to hold on to their drivers safe.

As it stands now, their best interests are served by drivers who constantly push the borders of safety.

I invite your comments and suggestions.

Is it silly to verbs more or...

that sounds absolutely right. it seem like it will make a huge difference when we drive doing a tour. i hope you succeed in your pursuit of justice.
OK, except that fine seem awfully stiff for a first offense. How about starting lower and jumping up to that height on say, the third citation??

Handicap parking ticket?

I agree completely. I've only been driving 8 years, but some of these drivers (mainly rookies, most likely) startle the heck out of me, too. I don't have a problem at all near someone putting a monitoring device on my truck. I think it would be great. I've seen too plentiful truckers out there giving the rest of us a bad label, and to be honest, I'm tired of it. Thanks for bringing up this question.

What can I do more or less...

First to answer your question I expect that the solution is not the answer. I think the companies need to pay packet better and that would help drivers slow down more. Also shippers and recievers need to realize that we are basically humans not robots.

Now as to soaplakegirl. Teams are not really not the answer. Let me ask you this, have you ever tried sleeping in a big truck? Trust me it is not graceful, I used to run team and I said never again. I think that team are more dangerous than solo drivers.
stop it...just stop it...

How impossible is it that I hold...

A fine is needed but at equal time would our government really pass such a ruling.

Personally, I seen rude truckers hog the road, and we've seen dimwitted drivers set themselves up for what could be a impressively painful, if not mortal, lesson.

Furthermore, not all trucks traveling the nation's highways are properly maintain, due to a lack of finances or pure laziness.

But for most truck drivers, who are remunerated by the mile and are held responsible for damaged goods, their lives and livelihoods depend on driving a well-maintained truck sensibly, and getting freight to its destination on time.

For those truck drivers, I take my hood off to.

Answers:    I've been driving for a few years immediately. What would I do for each person that like to pull in front of me and slam the brakes on? That happen way too often to me. I agree in attendance are a lot of BAD truck drivers. I stay away from other trucks as much as possible. In heavy rush hour traffic, the device would be on ALL the time. As more and more cars are doing a tour each year, the problem will become worse, but it's not always the truck drivers eccentricity. Car drivers are way too ignorant and imprudent around tractor trailers. Many people know that if they can get a truck to hit their saloon, most times the insurance company will automatically fault the truck driver and pay them rotten. I've seen people do things around me that simply defy all adjectives sense.

Drivers push the limits of sanctuary because their companies push them to get deliveries within sooner. I think that to truely solve the problem the solution exists in more team driving. That way the truck can keep running and the drivers hold time to sleep and get refreshed.
