As the MOT test was introduced almost 40 years ago, when motor vehicle were a lot smaller quantity roadworthy after three years, is it not time that the test was carried out at a greater interval, given that vehicle are manufactured to a higher degree and later longer?

...and readily, people are so much more careful something like maintaining their vehicles properly in our time, than they were 40 years ago, aren't they??

Is it a Georgia regulation that...

Answers:    people maintain their cars smaller number now than they did 40 years ago so quite the contrasting they should be tested once they are 1 year old not 3 years old as a vehicle could have 1 or more undetected but dangerous fault by the time it reaches 3 years old

imagine a car as it get to say 10 year old, done 120,000miles ,everything worn and you'd resembling to leave it more than a year without checking it over? no style! once they reach about 6 year antediluvian i think they should be mot'd twice a year
Same here- I've a 1973 Land Rover that is confident to work on - and passed first time.
My peugeot 206 failed on brakes and light and pedals alignment !
It has also fried it's ECU when the coilpack blew up, needed all brake and bearing replaced and a host of other problems.

I agree with a grace peroid from new making to MOT, but after that - cars can actually become dangerous in less than a year from a check due to driving conditions.

Thesedays the metal used is so thin, and products designed to go wrong after 8 years from manufacture - This is considered the "End of servicable life" for some manufacturers.
we're the lone country where we test cars every 12 months most countrys its every 2 years ireland have only brought the national car tryout in, in the ending 7/8 years, Just think of the revenue the government would loose if it be done every 2 year here, my god where would they get the money from this country is tax to the hilt as it is,
