Safest Cars?

Aside from Volvo, what are the top make and model of cars certain for being sheltered, that are sold in the US?

I dropped a AA freestyle on calamity...

Answers:    Actually, though Volvo have a reputation for manufacturing protected cars, their current models often do no better than other not dangerous cars in its class. One through problem Volvo has is that their models own a slow refresh cycle. The strange S80 should be great, but surprisingly, the S60 and S40 don't fare well. I don't know roughly the others.

Things to look for:

Side curtain airbags can reduce the arbitrary of death and skull fracture by 40% surrounded by some cases, during a side impact.

Crash test ratings: The insurance institute for highway safekeeping and EuroNCAP have stricter requirements than the NHTSA, so check them first.

Weight: If you own a car which weigh 2x as much as another, it absorbs solitary 1/8 the force! Try to buy a car i.e. as heavy as possible, however still has polite fuel economy. Buy a sports car that weighs at least possible 3000 pounds.

ESC: Electronic Stability Control, with lots monikers depending on manufacturer, uses a complex array of sensors to determine if your coup¨¦ may slip out of control, and applies braking force to the appropriate wheel(s) beforehand it happens. It supposedly provides 25 to 35% more control contained by certain situations, and the US rule has found cars next to ESC run into 22% fewer accident.

Death statistics: Some European governments hold on to track of how often ethnic group die with different cars, corrected for the sports car population, mileage, # of people surrounded by the car, etc. It give you real-life information, something that crash tests can't do. But later it also factors within driving habits and where on earth people drive (ie surrounded by wealthier neighborhoods people are promising more courteous). Unfortunately, it takes a few years for the facts to be compiled (after a model comes out, they have to dawdle and see).

----------

In general, buy cars contained by this order, from safest to most death-defying:

Large car, minivan, midsize coup¨¦, SUV, small car.

If you want a voluminous car:
Mercedes S Class
Jaguar XJ

both of these cars hold the lowest death rates doing a tour.

If you want a midsize car:
Audi A6
Mercedes E Class
Acura RL

the Audi and Acura enjoy excellent crash test ratings, the E Class not so much. But the E Class one of the lowest departure rates, though it can also be attributed to less aggressive driving behavior of Mercedes owners.

Minivan

Nissan Quest
Honda Odyssey

SUV

Infiniti FX35
Acura MDX
Porsche Cayenne

The Cayenne handle exceptionally well, and the FX35 have a great rollover rating. The MDX has some of both. The alien BMW X5 should be good, but crash interview ratings are yet to be released.

Notice:

I didn't mention small cars, because, due to their counterbalance, they tend to be significantly more dangerous, beside an order of enormity of 2 to 6.

SUVs aren't a particularly not dangerous class of vehicle, but since you may want to buy one anyway, I included it.

Luxury car models tend to own active safekeeping features standard and are also at least several hundred pounds heavier than their mass produced counterparts. They cost more, but they are also priced appropriately!

Is is intricate to intervene the drivers...

Mercedes.
