Safety--2008 Honda Civic vs. Mazda 3 ?

I like both the Civic and Mazda3--both are stylish (although different character), reliable, and a great appeal for the money for small cars. The Civic has stellar front, side, and backside crash test results from IIHS, but adjectives versions except the Si scarcity electronic stability control, a feature found to be significantly valuable within accident avoidance. The Mazda 3 S Touring have stability control, but it's crash tests are so-so---the Mazda 3 wanting side airbags got a Poor rating from IIHS, and Mazda never give the IIHS a 3 w/ side air lots to test, so it's rock-hard to tell how much better it would make, maybe it would be "Acceptable." The Mazda3 didn't neutral great in the NHTSA's crash test either, w/ 4 and 3 stars for front, and side, respectively, compared w/ mostly 5 for Civic, but IIHS's test are generally more rigorous anyways. A non-Si Civic w/ electronic stability control would trade name the choice so much more obvious, but one that that isn't the case...Civic EX or Mazda3 S Touring?

Answers:    Both are pretty much duplicate i.e. near the top of the class surrounded by safety lingo. I'd guess that the civic is safer though as it's a newer model. Check out the toughest car crash test in the world at the sources below. This is the European standard for crash sanctuary testing and is carried out below much tougher conditions than any in the USA i.e. superior impact speed, pedestrian safety etc.

Doesn it really work?
