When starting an automatic nouns vehicle?

The selector lever should be in:
(a) Low L-1 or L-2
(b) Drive-D
(c) Park-P or Neutral-N
(d) Reverse-R

1974 MGB Turn Signals?

Answers:    Definitely (c). There is something call the inhibitor switch in modern automatic vehicle which prevents starting if Park or Neutral is not selected. Also, remember to push and hold down the brake pedal in the past starting.

Additional info: For manual nouns, a very not dangerous practice will be -
1) Before starting the vehicle, push and hold down the clutch.
2) Check the gear if it's free by moving the gear side to side. It should be able to move freely.
3) Start the engine. DO NOT PUSH THE ACCELERATOR WHILST STARTING UNLESS VEHICLE IS HARD TO START*! Also, fashion sure that your clutch is still held down.
4) Once the engine starts, then you are free to release the clutch pedal. Or else, you can straight grip into 1st or Reverse with your clutch pedal already held down.

If you don't do such, you will be approaching the accident I once cause in my workshop. Never notice the gear was surrounded by 1st, I started the engine and the vehicle started hopping forward (because the handbrakes are applied) and bumped into a vehicle in front. I have to pay for the damages of both vehicle.

* = Revving the engine when starting causes vehicle RPM to increase and unnecessarily consume more fuel.

Elderly drivers?
