Because they roll... square wheel would clearly not roll now would they. a cricle is the just shape that will roll smoothly and evenly.

Answers: Becuase if they be square we would have to swing the roads to inverted parabolas (or what ever the shape is called) to make the ride smooth. We in fact figured this out surrounded by calculus class a few quarters ago. But it is possible to put together square tires, youd just hold to change the surface of the road.
